WORLD CANCER AWARENESS DAY

On February 4, 2019, grades 2-8 students at Kalar International School a SABIS^® PPP school in Kurdistan, took part in a cancer awareness campaign.

The day was arranged by the SABIS Student Life Organization (SLO)^® Social Responsibility Department and the main purpose was to raise awareness amongst students about cancer and its dangers. Students and staff were also encouraged to pledge donations for Hiwa Hospital, a local hospital providing treatment for many cancer patients. Thanks to their hard work and dedication a substantial sum of money was raised from students, school staff, and families and later donated to Hiwa Hospital.

The purpose of this campaign was for students to understand that they can be active and play an important role in their community, especially toward those less fortunate. “It was an activity that made our kids feel responsible about others. They understood that there are many people who need their support,” said a parent.
