Kalar Students Visit Hiwa Hospital

On February 3, 2018, Grade 7 students in Kalar International School, a SABIS® PPP school in Kurdistan, visited Hiwa Hospital, Kurdistan's only specialized cancer hospital.

The trip was arranged by the SABIS Student Life Organization® (SLO®) Social Responsibility Department. Prefects organized for a bus to take students to the hospital, where they were warmly welcoming by the administration and a doctor specialized in cancer diseases. Students were given a presentation about the mission of the hospital and the doctors in helping alleviate the suffering of their patients.

With this information in mind, the students met the patients and distributed gifts, toys, and flowers. Before leaving, they wished all the patients a speedy recovery and gave the hospital a money donation they had collected at the school.

The purpose of this activity was for students to become exposed to a real life scenario like the hospital and patients. It was also a great way to make students compassionate about an important cause like health care. “It was an activity that educated the students and gave them a sense of responsibility to help those in need, like the cancer patients,” said a parent.
