Kalar Students Visit Hazhar Forest to Participate in Planting Campaign

Students in grades 3-5 at Kalar International School, a SABIS® PPP school, visited Hazhar Forest to take part in a planting campaign on November 7, 2015. Responsible for organizing this event was the SABIS Student Life Organization®’s (SLO®) Social Responsibility Department.

A short time after arriving to the forest, SLO® was interviewed by the media about the planting campaign in Garmyan. The students were given a warm greeting by the director of the forest and were commended for their eagerness to plant trees and protect the environment. Following this, students split up into groups of four and planted trees under the supervision of gardeners.

In the middle of the process, a T.V. channel had prepared a report about this campaign and some students spoke to the reporter for the channel. After that the students collected trash. Finally, the students ate their lunch in the forest.

This trip was organized in order for the students to get to know the director of the forest and to work together to make Garmyan a greener area. The students learned what the plants need to properly grow and the importance of trees in the process of reducing environmental pollution.

Not only was this event an educational one where the students learned new skills, but they also gave back to the community by helping plant trees. The students’ parents, were grateful that the activity took place. “Thank you so much for giving my child a chance to participate in this activity to plant the trees and protect the environment,” a parent said.
