Kalar Students Visit Garmian Civilization Museum
Grade 3 and 4 students in Kalar International School, a SABIS® PPP school in Kurdistan, visited that Garmian Civilization Museum on October 12, 2016.
As the students arrived to the museum they quietly lined up for attendance check and to hear the rules on how to behave in the museum. Next the students were given some background information about the museum and the objects that were being kept inside. Then, the students were divided into smaller groups that started to enter the museum where they went on a guided tour. As a thank you to the museum for hosting them the students presented the museum with two of their SLO® year books. Finally, the students headed to a park by the museum to have their lunch.
The purpose of this activity was to give students a glimpse into their history and the history of their ancestors. Visiting museums is a very important part of education as it gives students the opportunity to see the things they read about it books, and opens their minds to how life changes over time. “It was a wonderful activity as I saw many ancient objects that belong to our ancestors,” said a student.
