KALAR STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN WORLD DIABETES DAY

On November 14, 2018, the SLO® Sports and Health Department at Kalar International School a SABIS® PPP school in Kurdistan, organized an activity for students from Grade 4 to Grade 6 to create awareness about World Diabetes Day.

On this day, the prefects prepared a board showing students exactly the proportion of sugar in the liquid drinks that we drink daily. The activity was also attended by a medical doctor who explained all about the different types of diabetes and its causes to the students. He also explained ways of preventing diabetes through healthy eating and how the students could adopt these healthy habits from a young age.

The purpose of this activity was to raise awareness amongst students of diabetes as a chronic disease and also the problems it causes. It helped students to realize that healthy food can be enjoyable and to encourage them to stay away from foods with refined sugars. “It was a very interesting activity, which raised our awareness about the causes and effects of this dangerous disease,” said a student.
