KALAR INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL CELEBRATE KURDISH FLAG DAY

On December 17, 2018, grades 2-8 students at Kalar International School a SABIS® PPP school in Kurdistan, celebrated Flag day.

The day was arranged by the SABIS Student Life Organization® (SLO®) Activities Department. On that morning, students dressed in traditional Kurdish clothing visited Layla Zana High School, where they performed a Kurdish national song specially arranged by the music teacher for the celebration of Kurdistan Flag Day. Throughout the day students took part in various activities such as reading texts about the Kurdish Flag, including poems and prose. They also took part in various traditional dances with the Kurdish Flag and finally finished off the joyous celebrations all together by raising the flag while singing the Kurdish National Anthem.

The purpose of this activity was to increase the feeling of national pride and to encourage students to take an interest in their culture and history. “It was a very important activity that raised our awareness of the importance and the history of our national flag,” said a student.
