On April 6, 2013, Kalar International School hosted a “Keep the Environment Clean” day for Grade 1 and 2 students. The event was designed to raise awareness of importance to keeping the environment clean and safe and to help the students feel responsible for the world around them.
Mr. Karwan, the Kalar School Director, and Mr. Dara, Director of the General Directorate of Education in Garmeyan, gave speeches to encourage and inspire the students to start the day. Students from Grade 2 performed Kurdish, Arabic, and English songs. After the opening ceremony, the students and parents, who were given a T-shirt, hat, and gloves, were led by a teacher to their designated area, where they cleaned the territory and planted flowers and trees. The event was a huge success with all the participants. Mr. Dara commented: “This is a great step forward in our education reform that we have initiated with SABIS®. Such events have a great effect on our kids from the early years, and all schools should implement such events more often.”
